Professional Logistics Systems was founded in 2006 by Kevin Beam, Ph.D., C.P.L. after nearly thirty years of practicing and teaching business, leadership, management, logistics, business process redesign, and computer intensive operations research in the public and private sectors. A 1978 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a retired U.S. Army officer, Dr. Beam earned a M.S. in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in Operations Research and Statistics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His active duty highlights include serving in the Maintenance Battalion in the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT) for five years, as a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the United States Military Academy, and as a logistics policy analyst within the RAND Arroyo Center Military Logistics Program for three years.

Upon entering the private sector, Dr. Beam taught at the University of Richmond and then was the Program Manager for the OSD AT&L Joint Theater Distribution Joint Test and Evaluation program. At the JT&E’s conclusion, the team’s expertise transitioned to the DLA J-3 office, DORRA.  Again as program manager, Dr. Beam led the team in developing concepts for the DLA forward depots in Okinawa, Korea, Sigonella, Kuwait, and Bahrain. At the onset of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the team developed and provided web based AIT that the CENTCOM CFLIC used to obtain management visibility of the DOD distribution pipeline. Currently the Joint Forces Command uses this technology within the Korea Experimentation Program.

More recently, Dr. Beam co-founded a governmental contracting firm and helped grow it from the ground floor to over 100 employees and annual revenues of $30 million within thirty months. This firm provided logistics support operations within the intelligence community in Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Maryland, and at Bolling AFB. Other customers included DLA, DOJ, NGA, and the U.S. Army providing support for wide-ranging operations such as Hurricane Katrina/Rita disaster relief within the U.S. and a mass grave exhumation in Iraq in advance of the Saddam Hussein trials.
